March 1, 2018

UA Maker Students and Parents,

March is an exciting month for high school students. We continue to get college acceptances every day. Right now we have over 60 of our 90 seniors with college acceptances and we are expecting the final 30 to get them soon. For those 10th and 11th graders, March means time to get prepared for college. March 21 is SAT School Day for all NYC students. 10th graders will be taking the PSAT and 11th graders will take the SAT. The SAT is the standardized test that college’s use to determine whether you are prepared for college. There are free SAT and PSAT prep courses available. Please email partnership coordinator, Ashley Vega at Ashley.vega@uamaker.nyc for more information.

March is also Parent Teacher Conferences. Your child’s advisor should have contacted you about a time to meet to discuss their progress toward graduation. If you have not heard from them, please email or call me at luke.bauer@uamaker.nyc or by calling my 212-225-0890 x4361.

With spring right around the corner it is a great idea to start thinking about what activities you want your child to participate in during the summer. Getting involved in an internship, volunteering, or a paid job are great ideas for students to boost their resumes. If you have any questions about these you can also contact Ashley at the email address above. Do not wait to find a great opportunity for the summer.

Finally, as I’m writing this there has just been a terrible school shooting in Florida. 17 lives were lost in a terrible incident. I take our own safety very seriously and encourage you to come to our next parent association meeting on Wednesday March 21 at 6:00 p.m. I will spend some time talking about school safety in general and what everyone (parents, teachers, students, administrators) can do to help ensure our school remains a safe to work and attend school.

As always, I appreciate everything that our families do to support our students.

Thanks,

Luke Bauer,

Principal
