UA Maker April Family Newsletter

Dear Maker Family,

It’s wonderful watching your children bloom this spring at Maker! This past month we were visited by the Lighthouse Collaborative, the Digital Promise League of Innovative Schools, the Competency Collaborative, and our Superintendent Fred Walsh. This coming week we will host DC Public Schools Design Lab and the New Learning Collaborative. Everyone’s feedback has been about how authentically and meaningfully they see our students grappling with complex, real world problems. More and more folks are expressing interest in visiting our school to learn, and their feedback pushes our practices to better and better prepare our children to lead in the world they will walk into oh so soon!

We’ve responded to your feedback about wanting your children to have more and more real world experiences through our classes and also through trips. This past month included trips to the Met Museum, the Union Square Greenmarket and more, and next month will feature trips to FactSet, The NY Autoshow, and more!

As we draw closer to Regents please be sure to check your students' grades on Jumprope. The more you talk with them about their strengths and areas of growth, the better they will be prepared to finish the year strong. Additionally, we are offering Saturday School for Regents preparation. Please see details in the newsletter to sign up and support your children in being prepared.

Happy Spring everyone!

Warmly,

Amy

helping to build a college list. Please fill out this form and have your
child submit it to the College Office. All Juniors are expected to
have their parent(s) fill outthis form and bring the accompanying
materials (2023 taxes including the 1040 and 201 form).

04/05: City College, Chemistry Department Tour

For Senior Families:

FAFSA Updates
As of March 15, the FAFSA began processing applications. Students
should start receiving emails that their FAFSA was processed. This will
also notify students if there is a missing signature or any errors in the
application. Currently, there is no timeline for when students and
contributors can go into FAFSA to correct these errors, however we will
keep you updated! We are hoping this is soon!

FAFSA is expected to begin sending out FAFSA information to colleges
this week, and students with successfully processed FAFSA applications
should begin to get Financial Award Letters from each school that they
listed on their FAFSA form and were accepted into.

Commitment Day for Colleges in the United States has historically been
on May 1st each year. However, due to issues with the new FAFSA form,
many schools have pushed back their commitment day deadlines to
May 15th or even to June 1st. Please encourage your child to see the
deadlines for their top college choices!

Saturday Academy!

We will continue to have Regents prep Saturdays from 10-1 on:
  • April 6, 13
  • May 4, 11, 18, 25
  • June 1, 8, 15
Come on down!
