Questions (not yet frequently asked)
- Do I have to come to all meetings? No! Come when you can. Drop in for a single meeting or come every week.
- Can I bring a friend? Please do, but we have to add their name to the list for the front desk. Send us an email or have them sign up.
- I’m not a student, but I like maps. Can I come? Our priority is for students, but we want to be open to the larger community. Send us an email ([email protected])
- Do I need my laptop? No, but you might want it. We can help you get it set up for GIS work at home.
- What software will we use? That depends on what the club wants to do. Our focus is FOSS (Free and Open Source Software) and we use Python (Pandas, GeoPandas, Pygris, etc), QGIS, and OSM in a lot of our work. We are also meeting in our maker lab, so we will have the chance to design and build some GIS hardware, too, if we need it.
- I’m in high school and this sounds great…can I come? Probably, but please have a teacher or staff from your school send us an email.
- Will I have to pay for field trips? No, we will cover the costs for student members.
- Can I come late or leave early? Yes, it’s not class.
introduces high school students to careers in architecture,
engineering, and construction management.
Students are organized on teams set up to emulate actual
design teams. Mentors on teams are industry
professionals that guide the students through a mock
design project while introducing them to the careers,
industry vocabulary, and various roles professionals' play in
the industry. Teams meet late October through May,
with some teams starting in January. Team meetings are
at a professional office or university throughout NYC,
Long Island, and Westchester.
Students learn about core principles of the industry,
use design software, gain communication and
technical skills, and go on construction site tours! ACE
GNY also shares resources on applying to college,
scholarship applications, internships, and more.
ACE GNY is designed for everyone - students with and
without prior knowledge of the design and construction
industry.

MET Museum Internship
The Met High School Internship Program offers paid opportunities for students who are in grades 10 and 11 or are obtaining their High School Equivalency and who, on the application deadline date, attend a high school or home school in New York City. This program allows students to connect with art, museums, and creative professionals as they develop professional skills, network, and gain work experience.
This spring semester internship is not limited to young people who have a passion for art! The Met’s High School Internship Program allows you to connect one-on-one and in small cohorts with museum professionals in a number of related fields, including curatorial, social media, education, imaging, design, and more. During your time at The Met, you will have the chance to find where your interests intersect as you gain insights from peers and professionals.
Upon completion of the program, High School Interns receive a $1,100 stipend, commensurate with New York State minimum wage law.
